About Sabrina McCoy Griffin

The power of the performing and visual arts has always been clear to me. As a dance student (ballet, modern, tap, and African dance) in my youth and again as a young adult, and as a violinist until college, I loved performing. However, I decided not to audition for the orchestra at New York University, a decision that I have always regretted. Then there was my introduction to the Brooklyn Museum, the American Museum of Natural History, and other art venues through grade school class trips. I was obsessed with learning about the past and different cultures, places, people, and things through art and artifacts. When I later took an art history class in college, I thought, wow! If I had the time and resources, I would study this instead of marketing and management, which were my majors at NYU. My mother thought I would have more success in business than in the arts, so I followed her advice. I wish I had known of the Dance of Harlem and its founder, Arthur Mitchell, when I was completing my college applications. I wish my mother and I would have seen young ladies who looked like me performing classical ballet, which was my dream. Representation matters! As a longtime resident of the New York metropolitan area and now Tampa Bay, Florida, I have continued to learn about and enjoy all forms of art. While I feel honored and privileged to have enjoyed a wonderful career in the financial services industry. I am delighted to bring my years of experience in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, specifically within an industry that underwrites the arts, to working directly with Art Institutions to ensure youth from underrepresented communities have access.Background Photo Credit: Taj Tenford 2019|\"Sewing Seas\"
