   Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated is the first African-American intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity. It was founded on December 4, 1906, at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The fraternity was established by seven visionary men known as the \"Seven Jewels\": Henry Arthur Callis, Charles Henry Chapman, Eugene Kinckle Jones, George Biddle Kelley, Nathaniel Allison Murray, Robert Harold Ogle, and Vertner Woodson Tandy.Since its inception, Alpha Phi Alpha has grown to become one of the largest and most influential fraternities in the United States. It has initiated over members through its undergraduate and alumni chapters. The fraternity\'s motto is \"First of All, Servants of All, We Shall Transcend All.\"Alpha Phi Alpha has made significant contributions to society in various fields. It has produced leaders in politics, civil rights, education, business, and the arts. Notable members include civil rights leaders Martin Luther King Jr, W.E.B. Du Bois, and Thurgood Marshall, as well as Olympic gold medalist Jesse Owens, filmmaker Spike Lee, and astronaut Bernard A. Harris Jr.The fraternity places a strong emphasis on educational attainment and community service. It sponsors various programs and initiatives, such as mentoring programs, scholarships, and leadership development opportunities for young men. Alpha Phi Alpha is also known for its Alpha Phi Alpha Education Foundation, which supports educational and charitable initiatives.Throughout its history, Alpha Phi Alpha has played a vital role in advancing the rights and opportunities of African Americans. The fraternity continues to promote social justice, academic excellence, and leadership development among its members and in the communities they serve.
