About Sly Worthy

Sly is a Licensed Social Worker, and dedicated advocate for education equity and mental health. A Lorain, OH native and two-time alumnus of The Ohio State University, he earned his bachelor’s degrees in Social Work and African American & African Studies, with a minor in Education. During his undergraduate years, he founded the Buckeyes First Student Organization to support, serve, and build a community for first-generation college students. His leadership, service, and academic excellence earned him recognition as a 2020 Homecoming Court member and a 2021 Martin Luther King Jr. Scholar. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors and Research Distinction, becoming only the second African American male to achieve this in the College of Social Work’s history. Sly went on to earn his Master’s in Social Work on a fellowship, further strengthening his commitment to supporting underserved communities. Sly also has experience coaching high school football, which has deepened his understanding of the challenges student-athletes face. He is passionate about the intersection of sports, mental health, and student achievement. Sly now serves as a Mental Health Specialist for Upper Arlington Schools.
