Rigging is a crucial aspect of the Ironworking trade, involving Structural, Reinforcing, and Ornamental Ironworkers. Any Ironworker who engages in rigging must possess knowledge about fiber lines, wire ropes, hooks, skids, rollers, proper hand signals, and hoisting equipment. Additionally, they must have comprehensive training on safety procedures. Ironworker riggers are responsible for loading, unloading, moving, and setting machinery, structural steel, curtain walls, and other materials that fall under their jurisdiction. This work is accomplished using various equipment, such as power hoists, cranes, derricks, forklifts, and aerial lifts, as well as manually, utilizing a system of blocks and tackle.Have you ever seen workers navigating the steel framework of large buildings under construction? Those daring individuals are Structural Ironworkers—often referred to as the “cowboys of the skies.” Their role involves unloading, erecting, and connecting fabricated iron members to create the skeleton of a structure. Structural Ironworkers are involved in constructing industrial, commercial, and large residential buildings, as well as towers, bridges, stadiums, and prefabricated metal buildings. They also handle the erection and installation of pre-cast beams, columns, and panels.
