ABOUT SOTERIOS LOIZOU

Soterios Loizou is an Assistant Professor of Commercial Law at the University of Cambridge. He is also a Senior Fellow at Melbourne Law School.He completed undergraduate and postgraduate legal studies at the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, NYU School of Law, the Institute of International Commercial Law (IICL), Harvard Law School, and the University of Cambridge. His PhD at Cambridge focused on international sales law, conflict-of-laws, and comparative law issues. His research interests also extend to international litigation and arbitration, and maritime law.Soterios teaches English & International Commercial Law, International Arbitration, and Conflict-of-Laws at leading legal institutions across the globe. His commitment to teaching has earned him multiple nominations and finalist placements in the Teaching Excellence and King’s Education Awards, where he has been recognised in the categories of “Rising Star,” “Education Experience,” “Excellent Feedback,” and “Expanding Opportunities.” He was also awarded the Richard M. Buxbaum Prize for Teaching in Comparative Law by the American Society of Comparative Law, recognising excellence in course design, student mentorship, and leadership in advancing comparative law scholarship and pedagogy. Soterios is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), reflecting his dedication to professionalism in teaching and learning in higher education.Beyond his primary academic roles, he has held prestigious fellowships and visiting positions. He has been a TTLF Fellow at Stanford Law School, and a Hauser Post-Doctoral Fellow at the NYU School of Law. He has also served as a visiting faculty member at Peking University, School of Transnational Law in China, the University of Ferrara in Italy, and the University of Nicosia in Cyprus.His research has received numerous awards and prizes, including the Colin B. Picker Prize at the American Society of Comparative Law’s (ASCL) Young Comparativists Committee (YCC) Global Conference (2016), the first prize at the international competition organized by the MU Center for the Study of Dispute Resolution and the American Society of International Law (ASIL), Dispute Resolution Group conference (2017), the Trandafir International Business Writing Competition (2017), the Smit-Lowenfeld Prize awarded by the International Arbitration Club of New York (IACNY)(2020), and the second prize at the UNIDROIT COVID-19 Essay Competition (2021).Soterios is qualified to practice law in the State of New York (USA).
