About David Slaughter

David, a native Houstonian, began a successful retail career at Stage Stores Inc. in 1983 and 24 years later in 2007, he left Stage Stores as a Sr. VP, responsible for 200 stores, 14 districts and 3500 employees while overseeing $450 million in annual sales. After leaving Stage Stores in late 2007, he went back to school in 2011 to complete his college degree and on May 18, 2013 he achieved that goal, graduating with a 3.92 GPA from the University of Houston-Downtown receiving a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies and a minor in Communication Studies. Named, student of the year, David was also honored to deliver the keynote speech at his commencement in front of people at Minute Maid Park in Houston, most notably, in front of his 5 children. David\'s first book,\"Major Opportunities,\"​ was released on Sept 9, 2013 and details his role as a Sr. VP at Stage Stores as he helped lead his company out of a highly leveraged bankruptcy. He relays the successes at Stage who emerged a textbook example of how to succeed despite such dire circumstances. His second book, Major Opportunities of Mind, Heart & Soul, is set for release in the fall of 2015. He is employed as a small business consultant with a company based in San Jose, California called Visions to Excellence and conducts workshops, trains and coaches in both the private and public sectors. He now attends the University of Houston-Downtown in pursuit of his master\'s in non- profit management and is scheduled to graduate in December of this year. He plans to teach, coach and motivate others to apply their best while giving back to their community as a top priority in life. He also plans to go to work in a Houston based nonprofit this summer.
