ABOUT SPIROS KOURNOPOULOS

I’m a scientific software engineer with a background in molecular thermodynamics and a passion for building reliable, performant tools that accelerate scientific discovery. My focus is on numerical algorithms, physical modelling, and the design of scalable simulation infrastructure in materials and chemical engineering.I have worked at Siemens Digital Industries, contributing to gPROMS, a process simulation platform, where I developed C++ solver algorithms. I led key initiatives around numerical robustness, QA collaboration, and knowledge sharing, while fostering cross-team efforts to modernise release cycles and AI tooling.I hold a PhD from Imperial College London in Molecular Thermodynamics, where I built first-principles models for electrolyte systems using molecular simulation and statistical mechanics. My research has been published in top-tier journals and shared at international conferences. My academic journey also includes an MSc in Computational Mechanics and a Diploma in Chemical Engineering from NTUA, Athens.I write performant, testable code in several languages including Python and C++ with expertise in simulation workflows and scientific reproducibility. I bring a systems-thinking approach to engineering, and I strive to design tools that are not just functional, but collaborative and intuitive to use.At my core, I’m a builder and an enabler. Highly driven by curiosity, shaped by scientific rigour, and always looking to bridge the gap between theory and production-ready solutions.
