    Jan 2014 — Present

Overall research interest includes 1) multi-physics coupled simulation for advanced nuclear technology (e.g, Medical Isotope, H2 production, Space application), 2) LWR sustainability and reactor safety study, 3) multi-phase(e.g. sub-cooled boiling) study with the experiments and numerical modeling for DNB prediction, and 4) fluid-structure interaction (FSI) modeling for vortex-induced motion in the energy system. Recent research activities in selected programs - Point kinetic simulator using python and Octave for advanced Rx system - Microreactor program (heat pipe reactor and compact natural circulation reactor, solution reactor)- VTR safety assessment and experimental cartridge Design using a multiphysics approach - CASL (Consortium of Advanced Simulation of LWRs) for DNB modeling and Validation for PWR - Both tightly and weakly coupled TH-PK simulation for reactor design (i.e. Moly99 production)- Innovative passive TH safety feature development using Heat-pipes and Twisted tubes - High-Performance Computing for Nuclear System Engineering Applications- Massively parallel adaptive simulations of complex fluid dynamics at large scale- Turbulence modeling (DDES, URANS, LES)- Fluid Interaction simulation for fuel wearing simulation and fretting- Vortex-Induced Motion simulation related to off-shore engineering application with HPC Selected examples of coupled simulation expertise related to reactor application -> Multi-phase boiling simulation methodology development and validation.(DNB and CHF)-> Rigid body or deformable-body for FSI application and GTRF characteristics-> multi-physics coupled calculation for fuel accident simulation -> FEA+MCNP+CFD coupled calculation for the advanced nuclear technology -> MCNP+TH system analysis for aqueous homogeneous reactor (Moly-99 application)-> sub-channel+sub-cooled boiling model for fuel performance analysis
