ABOUT STEVEN ADLER
I\'m a researcher focused on how to make AI go better. These days, the best place to follow along with my thinking and writing is Substack, where I write a newsletter called Clear-Eyed AI: clear-eyed.aiFrom 2020 to 2024, I led various safety- and product-related work at OpenAI, most recently leading our research into personhood credentials—what are privacy-preserving ways to tell who is real online—and previously on leading our evaluations for dangerous capabilities and for AI systems\' ability to do useful AI R&D, among other projects. Prior to OpenAI, I joined the Partnership on AI as its second employee and scaled its Responsible AI programming across ~35 staff and ~100 Partners, managing teams of researchers and program managers along the way. Way back in the day, I was a management consultant at McKinsey. My academic background is a mix of computer science (MS in CS from Georgia Tech), economics (AB from Brown), and psychology / philosophy.
