About Janjua

Through my rich life experiences and diverse career path, I discovered my innate passion and talent for helping others confront inequities through education and action. I deeply believe that it is everyone’s responsibility to do the deep self work involved in creating an equitable world for all of us, and I enjoy facilitating that work. At the intersections of my identities, I found that I’m not the only one who experiences the world the way I do. I am biracial, transgender, non-binary, and queer. Showing up as my full self in spaces has been a lifelong struggle, but it has informed how I am able to meet others exactly where they are in their journey toward true inclusion and equity. My path to leading Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) work began in my years as a classroom teacher at the start of my career. I quickly began working with my students to engage with them in discussion about intersectionality, diversity in the curriculum (or lack thereof), and transformative justice. I left the classroom understanding the full power of education and empowerment as I watched my students walk out into the world as changemakers. I also left the classroom understanding the full impact of teacher burnout, oppression, waning mental health, being forced back into the closet, and watching my students struggle under systems that weren’t built with their individual success and care in mind. In 2017, I ventured to DC to start my master’s degree in international education at George Washington University, where I studied educational access in other countries. After earning my master’s degree, I began working in the non-profit sector at an education-based program, where I began doing more formalized DEIB work. There I worked with staff on inclusive decision making, equitable fundraising, workshops on LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace and for our scholars, and building out projects that help staff track the equitability of our external events. In addition to my DEIB work, I manage our donor database and support with external facing events. In June 2023, I launched my DEIB consulting company, called Empowered for Equity Consulting, where I worked with schools and organizations to provide workshops, trainings, keynote speeches, and technical support. I have had the honor of working with some amazing schools, organizations, and government entities. In 2025, I was recognized as a Top 25 Restorative People Leader by Intersectional Innovations.
