About Siyan Lin
My journey in technology is driven by a fascination with both the art of building software and the science of extracting insights from data. My interest in software engineering began during my Computer Science studies at HKUST, a top-tier university that provided me with a strong academic foundation. My coursework not only gave me a firm grasp of programming and algorithms but also a mindset for applying technical skills to real-world challenges. This was put into practice at my internship at DocPro Service Limited, where I was a key part of the AI team. The satisfaction of engineering an AI chatbot from the ground up was profound. Implementing core functionalities with RAG and MapReduce gave me a deep appreciation for building robust and efficient systems that deliver real business value.Following that, my final year project was a significant engineering challenge. My focus was on building a seamless localization system using only IMU signals. As the main contributor, I engineered the PDR module by fine-tuning a machine learning model for real-time position updates. This project solidified my ability to develop a complete, high-performance system from scratch. My role as a Data Science Research Assistant at the School of Computing and Data Science was where my passion for data truly took a front seat. I applied my skills to analyze large datasets and built an interview system that performed sentiment analysis. This experience was key in showing me how engineering and data can be combined to build impactful, end-to-end solutions. These experiences solidified my direction and led me to pursue a Master of Information Systems Management at Carnegie Mellon University. Here, I\'m intentionally bridging my engineering background with a deeper understanding of business intelligence and data analytics. My coursework is teaching me how to apply quantitative decision-making to a wide range of managerial problems, connecting my technical skills with strategic business thinking.Beyond my technical work, I thrive in collaborative environments and am always seeking opportunities that allow me to combine my creative and problem-solving skills. I\'m keen to connect with professionals who share an interest in innovative and results-driven solution!
