About Sivaprasad Murali

I’m a computer science student interested in systems and database internals, particularly how query engines, indexing structures, and storage layers work under the hood.I designed BISCUIT, a custom Index Access Method for PostgreSQL that explores alternative approaches to pattern matching queries using bitmap algebra over character-position indexes. The goal was to reduce unnecessary heap access and experiment with new ways of handling LIKE queries inside the database engine.I enjoy exploring ideas at the intersection of data structures, query optimization, and storage engines, and building working prototypes to test those ideas in real systems.My work has been shared with the open-source community, including presenting BISCUIT at FOSSASIA.Beyond BISCUIT, I also build open-source developer tools and libraries, including projects published on PyPI such as Fylex, which has surpassed 20K downloads.I’m currently a B.Tech CSE student at Indian Institute of Information Technology Kottayam and am interested in internships and research opportunities related to:• database systems • query optimization • indexing methods • storage engines • distributed databasesI enjoy discussing database architecture, experimental indexing methods, and open-source systems.
