ABOUT SISIR KANTI MONDAL

Research: I am specialized in conducting research in the field of ore deposits related to the igneous system such as platinum-group elements (PGE), chromite and Ni-Cu-sulfides. My research involves petrology, geochemistry and isotopic studies of the ultramafic-mafic rocks. In addition, I address the issues related to chemical evolution of the Earth’s mantle.Exploration: I am experienced in exploring magmatic ores such as Ni-Cu-sulfides, PGE and chromites using geological mapping, rock characterization by bulk rock geochemistry and petrology, petrographic analysis of geological materials, EPMA of minerals, SEM-EDS of PGE-bearing minerals and insitu trace element geochemistry of minerals.Teaching: I have considerable teaching experience. For example, I have taught courses entitled ‘Ore Geology’ and ‘Igneous Petrology’ (including laboratory sections focusing on petrography) for undergraduate and postgraduate students. These courses include field training for the students. In addition, I have taught courses like ‘Introduction to Geology’ for the undergraduate student, ‘Reading seminars on magmatic ore deposits’ and ‘Platinum-group elements: geochemical tracers to understand the evolution of the Earth’s mantle’ for the PhD research scholars.Since 2008 I am a standing member of the editorial board of the Journal of Geological Society of India. I am an Associate Editor of Ore Geology Reviews (12/2018) and Journal of Asian Earth Sciences (12/2020). In addition, I review articles for many top-rated geological journals: Journal of Petrology, Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, Precambrian Research, Chemical Geology, Canadian Mineralogist, American Mineralogist, Lithos, Journal of Geological Society (London), Economic Geology, Mineralium Deposita, Ore Geology Reviews, Geological Journal, Journal of Earth System Science (India), Journal of the Geological Society of India, Current Science (India) and Journal of Asian Earth Sciences.
