I am responsible for engagement with the data community around all of our Digital Public Service unit\'s Data Services, in particular our geospatial-related data. I have a particular interest in how our data services can be used, repurposed and improved to help with many of Scotland\'s vulnerabilities.

ABOUT SIMON ROBERTS
I\'d describe myself as a geographer first and foremost having worked in a wide range of roles across central and local government that have required various elements of geographic data, technology and policy expertise. However, I feel that my main speciality is being able to engage with stakeholders to effectively communicate the need and importance for better ways of managing and utilising data (whether that be spatial or otherwise) to help improve business processes, public services and society as a whole. Throughout my career and various roles, my confidence and knowledge have increased considerably and I can now undertake many potential roles and speak with authority on a great many topics. I am currently enjoying using my skills, expertise and knowledge to advise and support local government in their journey towards better use of data.Key skills and attributes:• Advanced spatial/ GIS data analysis and data manipulation skills.• Excellent communication and people skills• Experience of writing business cases and options papers• Effective training and managing of staff (incl emergency response scenarios)• Excellent capability for distilling and communicating complex technical material to senior managers and stakeholders.I also have experience and knowledge working in the following areas- Landscape Architecture- ecology and biodiversity conservation - animal population and disease data analysis and mapping- the EU INSPIRE directive- Geographic Strategies- Linked/ linkable data concepts- Statistical geographic standards- Local government spatial data- Commercialising data as an asset
