ABOUT SIMON PULMAN-JONES

I work at the intersection of science, technology and health systems, helping translate emerging innovation into real patient impact. My recent career has focused on a central healthcare challenge: how advances move from scientific possibility to products, services and systems that are adopted in practice and improve outcomes for patients. As Head of Design for Evinova (an AstraZeneca healthtech business), I led design strategy and organisational transformation for a digital health platform supporting:• global clinical trials• remote patient monitoring for precision medicine• hybrid drug–digital therapeutic experiences• scalable product and design delivery across multiple partnersThis included restructuring the design organisation, shifting from an outsourced model to a predominantly internal capability, and positioning the team for emerging opportunities in AI-driven product development. My background in social anthropology and ethnographic design gives me a distinctive perspective on how people and institutions adopt new technologies. I have worked across the innovation spectrum, from early-stage science and university spin-outs to regulated product delivery and health system implementation.I am particularly interested in the conditions that determine whether promising advances translate into real patient benefit: institutional structures, regulation, professional cultures and digital infrastructure.Over the past several years I have worked across multiple layers of the healthcare innovation ecosystem, including pandemic response, public health infrastructure and global pharmaceutical digital health platforms. My work increasingly explores how AI-enabled systems are reshaping the relationship between scientific discovery, clinical practice and patient care.Following the completion of my work at AstraZeneca and Evinova, I am reflecting on these lessons and exploring how they can inform the next phase of health system innovation across industry, research and public health. My goal is to help accelerate the safe and meaningful adoption of digital health, AI-enabled medicine and precision therapies so that life-changing advances reach more people.Current areas of interest include:• digital enablement of precision medicine• remote patient monitoring at scale• public-private innovation infrastructure• university translation and emerging science commercialisation• strategic advisory and governance roles in health system transformation
