About Simon P. Chandler
In addition to leading clinical research in gene therapy, biologics and small molecules as therapies for ophthalmic and systemic indications, I also form a bridge between academic and industrial research; lecturing in US-based clinical development for both academic and corporate teams in the US and the EU. I leverage my experience and expertise in molecular biology, clinical development and regulatory interaction to maximize performance in cross-functional teams on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. My skill set, particularly in bringing European and Asiatic developmental opportunities to the US helps enhance pipeline strength and develop a solid trust-based Company culture on the international stage. Specifically, I have experience in FDA and ICH-driven drug development from preclinical/non-clinical studies through all Phases of clinical trial design in small molecules, biologics and gene therapies. I have proven success and expertise in study design; adaptive, placebo-controlled and combinatorial approaches, as well as protocol development for Retinal disease, Rare and Orphan disorders, Glaucoma, Dry Eye, Allergy, Anti-infectives and Cataract-IOL implantation in refractive surgery. In addition I have designed trials in peripheral arterial disease, diabetic neuropathy and numerous retrospective cause-and-effect analyses.I specialize in re-purposing and strengthening the Company pipeline through knowledge of mechanism-based molecular signalling cascades and cellular/nuclear response. I encourage the translational linking and utilising of the research and development expertise within the Company and within my network for evaluation of in-licence opportunities as well as existing pipeline life-cycle management.
