ABOUT SIMON KIRKLAND

Simon has a broad experience, is a published author, a former Chief Executive of England Basketball, worked for Birmingham City Council as a teacher, facility manager and a Sport Development Officer. He has managed growth of the facility with a broader range of groups. Within the sport development team he developed an innovative programme for club development, recognised in the House of Commons and was part of the team that developed of the first sport and physical activity strategy. As Chief Executive of England Basketball he led policy construction, strategic planning and delivery. Simon led a cross sport planning groups for the National facility plan and the development of Active Sports. He identified clear objectives, built in levels of criteria, setting a framework for addressing social and sporting objectives. Simon led the fundamental review of Basketball, which initiated a new re-focused strategic plan to improve the sport and the communities it touches. He addressed some conflicts of interest which led to improved probity and integrity. This led to the achievement of a much improved \"Fit for purpose\" Audit and the Achievement of Investors in People. He left Basketball in 2002 to initiate his own business leading project management teams that have delivered on a broad range of projects in governance and strategic planning. Simon has supported the development of strategies for sport national, regional and local level and has considerable experience in facilitating training at a high level with national bodies. He is an author of three major training resources and was a short listed finalist for the Coach Educator of the year. On an international front he supported the development of the PE and School Sport Strategy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Simon is an extremely experienced tutor assessor and verifier and delivers training educating coach tutors and assessors in the UK and internationally with FIBA International governing body for Basketball this instructor program has trained over 350 referee instructors round the world and has seen a significant improvement in referee training. He has driven the culture of Sport structures to make it fair and equitable for all of the flexible working approach has encouraged and developed people from a range of backgrounds
