As Senior Engineering Manager at N-able (formerly SolarWinds), I lead multiple cross-functional development teams distributed across several countries, delivering secure, scalable, and high-performing solutions in the cybersecurity and IT management space. My focus areas include Patch Management, Apple/macOS Engineering, and Endpoint Security, serving a global customer base of managed service providers and enterprise IT organisations.I drive the strategic and technical direction for our patch automation platforms, enabling organisations to identify vulnerabilities, deploy updates, and maintain compliance across millions of endpoints. Under my leadership, these solutions have achieved double-digit improvements in patch deployment speed and accuracy, while significantly reducing customer exposure to zero-day threats. In parallel, I have expanded our Apple/macOS development capability, leading teams that deliver enterprise-ready macOS management and security tooling. These solutions integrate natively with Apple’s evolving frameworks and are engineered to the same depth of capability traditionally available only for Windows environments, a major differentiator in our cybersecurity product suite.Technically, our solutions are built on a modern micro-services architecture leveraging Java, GO, Kubernetes, and Kafka, with intuitive Angular front ends designed in close collaboration with UX specialists. I champion Agile and DevSecOps practices, ensuring security and quality are embedded throughout the delivery lifecycle.Beyond delivery, I take pride in developing high-performing engineering cultures, based around collaboration, ownership, and innovation across 50+ engineers worldwide. By investing in coaching, process optimisation, and technical excellence, I’ve helped transform distributed teams into cohesive, outcome-driven units capable of delivering mission-critical cybersecurity solutions that protect businesses at global scale.

ABOUT SIMON HUNTER

Technology has been my career, my craft, and my curiosity for more than 30 years. I began as a developer, fascinated by how code could solve real business problems, and over the years, that curiosity evolved into a passion for leading teams, shaping architecture, and delivering technology that drives measurable impact. Today, I lead large, cross-functional development teams, spread across multiple countries, designing and delivering secure, high-performing platforms for cybersecurity, RMM and endpoint detection. I thrive on turning complex technical challenges into scalable, reliable, and user-focused solutions. I leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance every stage of the software delivery lifecycle, from process automation and intelligent development workflows to predictive testing and quality assurance. AI has become a key enabler in how my teams work: accelerating decision-making, improving code quality, and optimising performance across large, distributed engineering environments. By integrating AI-driven tools into our development pipelines, we streamline code reviews, automate test generation, and identify potential performance or security issues early in the cycle. At the process level, AI assists in resource planning, anomaly detection, and operational forecasting, ensuring that engineering capacity aligns with business priorities. This strategic use of AI isn’t just about efficiency, it’s about amplifying creativity and engineering excellence. It allows teams to focus on innovation and problem-solving, while AI handles repetitive, data-driven, or time-intensive tasks. I’ve worked across diverse domains, from Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) and Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), to financial systems, airline reservations and enterprise software, leading innovation that protects data, improves operations, and accelerates business outcomes. What drives me most is people: building strong engineering cultures where teams feel empowered, valued, and motivated to innovate. I believe great leaders remove obstacles, build collaboration, and help others succeed. I bring a balance of strategic vision and hands-on experience, blending deep technical knowledge with a focus on delivery excellence, security, and continuous improvement. Whether working with engineers, executives, or customers, my goal remains the same, to connect technology, people, and purpose in a way that truly makes a difference.
