It is the leading scientific organisation dedicated to product formulation. RSC FST, a charitable organization, it works for the benefits of its members and to further the awareness of formulation science. It fosters the advancement of formulation science across scientific disciplines: biology, chemical engineering, physics, and across its many industrial applications: cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, foods, detergents, fuels, paints, to name but a few. It is the point of focus for all industrialists and academics engaged in the practice of formulation science. ABOUT SIMON GIBBON
I am a highly experienced natural philosopher, in that I am motivated by a passion to understand how things work and then to use this understanding to improve the world in real applications. In order to understand how things work, I have developed the skill to be able to rapidly assimilate the necessary technical understanding of a diverse range of businesses / technologies / applications – from protein to cement - and develop improvised networks of appropriate experts to address new areas. I believe that the starting point is always the whole system and that unnecessary parts are only eliminated once sufficient understanding has been discerned / developed. In order to do this effectively, a key element has been the development of a network of people who already have aspects (application / business / scientific) of the knowledge required. This approach has resulted in a range of novel solutions to business challenges. Specialties: colloid science, physical chemistry, websites for collaboration, scientific innovation, experimental design, experimental analysis, rapid experimentation
