Working with stalagmite samples from Italian and Bosnian caves. My work involves subsampling and micro-drilling speleothems, clean-room chemical preparation, and acid digestion of carbonate samples. I conduct stable isotope measurements using IRMS and perform U–Th dating with ICP-MS to develop high-resolution records of past climate variability. The role also includes analytical chemistry procedures, data processing, and collaboration with researchers at NTU’s Department of Geosciences.

ABOUT SIMONE COLMANET
I grew up in a small town in the Alps, where spending time in the mountains sparked a deep curiosity about the natural world. From an early age, I was fascinated by the processes that shape the Earth’s surface and the intricate connections between life and the environment.This curiosity led me to study Geology at the University of Bologna, followed by a Master’s in Climate Reconstruction at Utrecht University. Throughout my academic journey, I’ve remained driven by the same questions that first inspired me, how and why the Earth’s climate and landscapes have changed through time.I am now pursuing a PhD in Paleoclimatology and Geochemistry at the University of Pisa, where I focus on climate and environmental reconstruction to better understand how Earth’s climate and landscapes have evolved over the past years.
