I lead the team responsible for delivery of the University\'s IoT Service, a key component of our World Class Data Infrastructure within the Data Driven Innovation programme. The service provides support through consultancy and development in research, learning, entrepreneurship and operations to the University, our city deal region and nationally across Scotland in the development of Intelligent Connected Things and related information services. We have built a complete end-to-end service offering from sensor to insight including a dedicated LPWAN network for central Edinburgh, connected with a real-time data visualisation and analytics platform. We also develop our own edge of network devices from static environmental and biodiversity monitoring to mobile robotics with 5G enabled immersive telepresence. As part of this service we will be expanding our LoRaWAN IoT network to cover the complete 7,700 sqkm region of south east Scotland, from Fife in the north to the Scottish Borders in the south. We work with companies, the public sector and organisations globally in the development of new advances in Intelligent Connected Things. I have been passionately designing and delivering novel and engaging software products to customers professionally for 25+ years. I am also a published technical author :\"Mastering Parallel Programming with R\" Packt, June 2016, and joint author of the open source ROpenCL package.I enjoy the challenge of understanding complex problems and designing and building innovative high quality performant solutions. Whilst remaining highly technical, in recent years I have also become highly strategic and business focused. I am an expert at product innovation including the development of the broader business context.
