The Duty Director leads the Operations Control Centre (on a shift basis) and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the airline in the most efficient manner, whilst ensuring safety and compliance is not compromised. The role provides guidance for operational issues and enables crucial decisions to be made in a timely manner, considering the airlines optimum operational and commercial interests. The Duty Director is considered critical to managing a large group of cross-functional staff to minimise the frequency of disruptions to the schedule. Where disruption has occurred, the Duty Director ensures the OCC teams achieve prompt schedule realignment. Whilst on duty, the Duty Director is responsible for the management of all OCC elements to ensure that they are functioning as one with clear communications and lines of authority maintained, particularly during difficult disruptions.

ABOUT SIMON BELMONT

Duty Director of Virgin Atlantic’s Operations Control Centre (OCC) responsible for the day-to-day operation of the airline. Key enabler in delivering a safe, efficient and compliant flying operation, whilst leading a fantastic cross-functional team of duty managers representing all operationally critical departments across the airline. A Virgin Atlantic Airbus A330-300 and A340-600 Senior First Officer holding a full EASA/UK Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL). Responsible for delivering a safe, on-time and enjoyable flight to our customers, helping Virgin Atlantic become the most loved travel company. Simon was also a member of the Pilot Recruitment Team where he helped interview, select and recruit the best pilot talent to Virgin Atlantic. Previous to this was a very enjoyable and demanding 18-year military flying career. The last 9 years of which, were spent flying the Boeing C17 Heavy Lift aircraft as a Squadron Operations Director, Training Captain and Instrument Rating Examiner. The highlight of this being chosen to captain and fly the Prime Minister, David Cameron on his first flight into Afghanistan. Key attributes include excellent problem solving, decision-making, crisis management, communication and inter-personal skills. Simon also worked with Geo-4DUAV as their Operations Manager and Chief Pilot. Geo-4DUAV is a Geoscience survey and consultancy business based in Faringdon, Oxfordshire. It specialises in offshore seabed surveys as well as onshore aerial survey and mapping. Simon is Civil Aviation Authority-Remote Pilot Qualified (RPQ-s) and has Permission for Aerial Work from the CAA to operate the Sub-7kg Quad-Copter and Fixed Wing Unmanned Air Systems.
