Simon Tillotson is a Partner within ERM based in Oxford. Simon has over 35 years of experience in site closure/regeneration, demolition and decommissioning, soil and groundwater remediation, waste management, wastewater engineering and environmental engineering. Experienced environmental auditor since 1987. Auditing experience covers pre-acquisition, compliance regulatory and health and safety, and environmental financial liability assessments. His water management experience focuses on water risk and stewardship. He has undertaken closure planning for mining, pharmaceutical, chemical and manufacturing companies. He has been working on new concepts around reimagining mine closure and provided strategic closure support for a number of mining companies. Work has included leading closure planning workshops, development of financial provisions for closure and action plans necessary to implement closure. These have included assessment of environmental and social impacts of closure on the employees and on the local and regional economy and development of strategies/visions for the site post closure. Work on site regeneration projects has included the identification of re-use options for former industrial facilities, master planning/planning and the assessment of contamination impact and the need for remediation. Simon’s experience in mine closure planning has also included tailings dam consequential risk analysis, water risk analysis, financial uncertainty analysis and the development of action plans for effective risk mitigation and management. Simon has particular expertise in in-situ thermal focused solutions to provide rapid, cost effective and sustainable answers for the most complex site contamination problems and recalcitrant compounds, such as chlorinated solvents, PCBs, Pesticides and 1,4-dioxane.
