About Simon Sun

Contact: p••••@uw.edu - Something About Me That Does Not Show On My Resume- I was raised in China\'s third-tier city, Jining, where life was relaxed and ordinary. When I moved to Shanghai for high school, things became more competitive, priorities changed, and people were more aware of decisions made based on where they were from. Then I spent a semester in the UK and now 4 years in the U.S. for college. The personal cultivation across diverse cultures and regions made me inherently sensitive to people\'s perception and their consumption view, such as how humans respond to vagueness, how style of living imparts perception, and how tactics come together within multiple scenarios. I remember taking an entire month simply watching 20 disparate boba shops inside one mall near where I was located so I would understand why consumers walked into the locations and departed from them. I hadn\'t yet learned to employ phrases like \"churn rate\", but I was just simply interested. Since then that interest has grown into a core element of the way that I think. During high school, I was the first student ever to initiate a startup on campus. It was a student-oriented digital platform that combined lost-and-found, second-hand trade, student forums, and senior-hosted webinars. I spent weeks convincing the school administrators, setting forth the reasoning that empowering the students with ability to organize and network could inspire greater initiatives. This made me feel with the everlasting joy when five additional startups were subsequently launched by students after my graduation due to my impact. Learning to lead taught me to create opportunity for others to lead as well. Volleyball is also an element of my life. When I was the captain of my high school volleyball team, I led us from the bottom of the city rankings to podium placements. Not because I am the most outstanding performer, it was because I figured out how to respond in the moment, to adapt mid-game and bring people together. Competing on Seattle leagues these days, I have learned even more from my teammates who work for Microsoft and Amazon, learning from them insights that have changed my way of thinking about teamwork and long-term growth. Music is also part of my life. I run a little country music media account where I share about artists, trends, and fan engagement. It\'s helped me to build stories out of data and data out of stories, it is the ability which I now use when dissecting markets or pitching ideas. This emotional and economic experience made me feel equally powerful when investing.
