ABOUT SIMON SMITH

As an athlete, coach and manager at international level in a team sport, I developed transferable skills such as the ability to build rapport, ask quality questions and listen to help identify people’s needs. I am confident and articulate, I display professional behaviours, and have excellent communication and presentation skills.As part of the senior leadership team at a national sports governing body, I had responsibility for the high performance budget, employee contracts, relationships with key partners, and international scheduling. My experience at international tournaments, particularly World Cups and Global Qualifiers, honed my consistent leadership behaviours, which help to foster calmness and confidence in those around me. Planning, preparation, attention to detail and the ability to be agile in adapting to an ever-changing landscape are particular strengths.Tutoring on coach development courses reinforced to me the importance of preparing professionally and knowing my subject and content thoroughly. Prior to my time in international sport I managed a popular bar and restaurant in Edinburgh city centre, where I learned the importance of knowing one’s range of products in helping the customer to have a positive and satisfying experience.I now thoroughly enjoy applying the above knowledge, experience and skills to my roles as Admissions Registrar and Assistant Housemaster at Loretto School, and I am confident that these, along with my commitment to lifelong learning and continuous improvement, will help me to provide a world class experience for all families.
