ABOUT SIMON RIETBERGEN

34+ years experience, including 18 years in environment and development NGOs, 9 years at the World Bank and 6 years at FAO. Expertise includes preparation and supervision of investment projects in forests and REDD+, smallholder agriculture and fisheries development, biodiversity conservation, drylands, climate change adaptation and mitigation (including for Green Climate Fund), environment and development policy, multi-stakeholder dialogue. • Worked at management and technical levels in hierarchical, matrix and network organizations, and have a good knowledge of the dynamics of organizational decision making • Led the development of environmental and social standards with corporate sector and of tropical forest management policies and practical guidelines in intergovernmental & NGO fora • Developed, managed and fundraised for partnerships between NGOs and the corporate sector, between environment and development NGOs, between multilateral development Banks and NGOs • Led knowledge sharing and advocacy work with intergovernmental agreements (CBD, UNCCD, engaging with senior government levels and with UN and Intergovernmental organization in over 40 countries in five continents • Led proactive and reactive communications activities including information campaigns, stakeholder surveys and crisis management programs • Frequent speaker and panelist at international conferences on the topics of forest governance, climate change and sustainability, and on radio and television; widely published
