About Simon Payne

Simon leads the marketing activities for Sasol’s Technical Formulations business from Houston and is responsible for Sasol\'s Global alcohol products. Sasol sells a wide array of chemicals into the technical formulations markets (MWLS, Oilfield, MWLS, F&F etc.) from assets in the USA, Germany, Italy, South Africa and China. After completing his undergraduate degree in Business Science and post graduate diploma in Accounting at the University of Cape Town, Simon joined the Sasol CA training program in January 2009. During the 3 year program Simon rotated through Sasol’s business units and departments in Secunda, Sasolburg, Johannesburg and Germany.After qualifying as a CA (SA) Simon took on a role in Sasol New Energy, where he pursued his passion for preserving the environment by pursuing various clean & renewable energy projects, including the evaluation of wind, solar, hydro and battery power as well as carbon reduction projects incl. Carbon Capture & Storage and Underground Coal Gasification.Before moving to the US, Simon was an Investment Analyst for Sasol’s New Business Development team, responsible for decision support for large capital expansions and M&A projects. In 2014 Simon took an assignment to the US support financing of Sasol’s US Mega Projects. In late 2016 Simon was appointed Senior Analyst for Sasol’s Organics products division, responsible for the co-ordination of market intelligence, forecasting and supporting the sales ramp-up of Sasol’s LCCP project. In 2019 Simon was appointed as the global marketing manager for Sasol’s US polyethylene assets, where he was responsible for the development and implementation of our global marketing strategy. in 2021, after Sasol sold its US polymer business, Simon was appointed to head up the Middle East and Asia Industrial Solutions team. Simon was responsible for implementing Sasol’s new “Sasol 2.0” structure in the region, and successfully marketing and selling Sasol products into chemical intermediate and industrial applications in the region. On his return to Houston in 2023, Simon took on the role of Snr. Marketing manager for Metalworking & lubricant solutions. In 2024 Simon was appointed to lead the Technical formulations marketing function and is responsible for setting & implementing Sasol\'s global fatty alcohols strategy.Simon is an avid outdoorsman and loves to Hike, Run, Bike and Fish and has travelled to Asia, Europe, North America, and Africa and would love to see more of the world. In his personal time Simon enjoys coaching his sons in their various sporting activities.
