SKILLS
ABOUT SIMON OLDHAM
I help organisations design and secure complex AWS platforms, ensuring systems are resilient, scalable and capable of standing up to regulatory and forensic scrutiny. With over 20 years’ experience across government, healthcare and financial services, my work sits at the intersection of deep technical architecture, security governance and legal analysis. I combine hands-on systems understanding with formal legal training, allowing me to design solutions that are not only technically secure but also defensible in regulatory and investigative contexts. I have led enterprise cloud migrations, secured critical national infrastructure projects, and supported organisations ranging from startups to government departments in building secure, compliant platforms from the ground up. Through my consultancy, 401 Cyber Security, I work with organisations to modernise how secure systems are designed and operated, embedding security into architecture decisions, cloud platforms and delivery processes while ensuring compliance frameworks such as GDPR, HIPAA and PCI-DSS are properly addressed. Alongside consulting, I remain actively engaged in cybersecurity research. My current work explores threats involving TLS and PKI interception, malware techniques and detection strategies, helping ensure the systems I design anticipate emerging threats rather than simply reacting to them. Always technical enough to dive into the details when needed, but equally comfortable working with leadership teams on risk, governance and regulatory considerations.
