ABOUT SIMON MERCER
Simon is a chartered electrical engineer with the IET since 2005 and has a proven track record of providing a consistently high degree of customer satisfaction working in an EICA design environment for United Utilities for more than 15 years.Simon’s EICA knowledge is underpinned by practical experience of control systems, instruments and electrical distribution having served an electrical apprenticeship before leaving to embark on a Bachelor of Engineering degree at Manchester University whilst being sponsored by Ford Motor Company.After graduation Simon followed a System Integration career path gaining valuable experience of the water industry at a software (PLC, SCADA & HMI) programming and treatment works level, before being employed by United Utilities to lead the System Integration framework.Simon has led a multi stakeholder Steering Group providing leadership to suppliers and has created new engineering standards, a software module library and has introduced leaner delivery processes that are now business as usual within United Utilities.Simon has had experience leading an EICA design team working in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment on Liverpool WwTW, building a team of EICA engineers and motivating them to deliver several site based projects along with the final design for United Utilities largest £180 million wastewater Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) project, that was subject to challenging delivery timescales, tight budgetary constraints and technical scrutiny.The innovative designs and modular build solutions created on these projects have been consolidated into the engineering standards for United Utilities.Simon is an IET volunteer providing mentoring for engineers going through the registration process and is an internal mentor for United Utilities graduate and junior
