ABOUT SIMON HURST
Simon Hurst is a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, specialising in shoulder & elbow surgery and upper-limb reconstruction in major trauma. He divides his practice between the John Radcliffe Hospital—where he serves as Clinical Lead for Orthopaedics—and the Shoulder & Elbow Unit at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.He is dual trained in both France and the UK, having completed his postgraduate training at Imperial College London, followed by two years of fellowship and consultant-level practice as a Chef de Clinique within AP-Hôpitaux de Paris, CHU Avicenne and Université Sorbonne Paris Nord. He is fluent in both French and English.Simon is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer and Tutor in Surgery at St Edmund Hall, University of Oxford. His academic work focuses on emerging technologies in orthopaedic surgery, including mixed reality, wearable devices and robotics. He teaches on the University’s Musculoskeletal MSc programme and serves as Principal Investigator for several national upper-limb and trauma clinical trials. Nationally, he contributes as a member of the panel of question setters for the FRCS (Tr & Orth) examination.With over a decade of experience as a trauma and orthopaedic surgeon in the Army Reserves, Simon has deployed to Ukraine on a humanitarian basis, providing surgical trauma care in challenging environments.
