About Simon Guscott

I am a geologist and technical leader, with over 27 years international experience in E&P geoscience with Hess Corporation across multiple value chains. I am currently a Principal Geological Advisor for Hess Corporation’s Guyana Appraisal and Developments Team (GDT).With strong commercial acumen and a broad upstream analytical skill set, throughout my career I have led the integration of subsurface technical data to support enterprise decision making using platforms such as Petrel, GeoX and ResX/IRMA.I have a wealth of practical, “hands-on” experience in building, and providing technical assurance for, reservoir geomodels in deep water depositional environments. I am passionate surrounding the quantification of subsurface uncertainty and led the first subsurface team at Hess to employ Design of Experiments for reservoir modelling in Equatorial Guinea (2003). Since joining GDT in 2019 I have:1. Built geomodels for the first five Guyana sanctioned developments. Cumulatively, these fields contain billions of barrels of oil in place and represent ongoing investments of >$40 billion USD gross;2. Played a pivotal role in the successful onboarding of ensemble modelling into GDT, using Resoptima’s ResX/IRMA products; and,3. Held a leading role in the booking of SEC-compliant year-end reserves for the sanctioned assets.Colleagues describe me as an enthusiastic, dedicated, and collaborative team player who enjoys being in the heart of the action. I have a proven track record of delivering major projects on time & within budget. In my current role, c.20% of my time is spent mentoring early career geoscientists in all aspects of production and development geoscience. I am regularly involved in discussions around organization capability and have helped recruit numerous geoscientists and engineers to Hess.Beyond development geoscience, I was the first manager of Global Exploration’s Reservoir Evaluation Support team charged with introducing a valid, consistent, and reliable approach to prospect risk and resource uncertainty assessments across the global portfolio.I have served as an Exploration Manager (Brazil & Malaysia/Brunei), as an EP advisor to the E&P President in New York City, and as a senior geological advisor in Global New Business Development team. In this last role, I was responsible for multiple onshore and offshore asset evaluations and coordinating large asset divestitures.I have lived and worked in the USA, Malaysia, Denmark and the UK. I am a naturalized US citizen and hold a Ph.D. in reservoir quality from the University of Manchester, UK.
