ABOUT SIMON GRAY

Professional CareerSimon is a Senior Program Manager with GEI Consultants, based in Sacramento, California, USA. He has over 40 years of technical and managerial experience covering all aspects of project and program implementation. Simon’s career includes water, wastewater and recycled water planning studies, condition assessment, design, contracting, project and construction management in the United States, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Trinidad and Tobago. Simon has worked on multi-million-dollar programs as well as on small- scale projects for municipalities and rural communities. His major program management experience includes the $2 billion Greater Cairo Wastewater Project in Egypt, Hong Kong’s $2 billion Strategic Sewage Disposal Scheme, and Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District’s $600 million Lower North West Interceptor Program in California.Simon’s technical specialities include the design of both large and small conveyance systems, with a focus on system hydraulics, pipeline sediment transport, pump stations, storage tanks and pipelines. His experience also includes successful management of multi-discipline, contractor-led ‘fast-track’ design build projects with particular emphasis on constructability and design–construction coordination. Simon also has heavy civil engineering experience beyond water engineering that includes roads, bridges, power stations, buildings, and airports.Simon is a registered Professional Engineer in California, Oregon and Washington State, and a Chartered Engineer in the United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of the UK’s Institution of Civil Engineers.(Field) Hockey CareerSimon started playing hockey in his teens. His playing experience includes his varsity high school team, university 1st IX (club captain) and league hockey in the United Kingdom, United States and Hong Kong. Simon is the co-founder of the USA Field Hockey Masters’ Program for players over 35 and has played in two FIH Masters’ World Cups for the United States (17 caps). He is a USA Field Hockey Level 2 coach and has coached and managed at USA Field Hockey Junior and Senior Men’s National Championships, and in the USA Field Hockey Stick Starz, Futures and Nexus Programs. Simon served on USA Field Hockey’s Ethics Committee as chair, and as a full Board Director. Simon has been nominated for USA Field Hockey\'s Hall of Fame. From 2021 to 2024 he served on the Executive Board of World Masters Hockey, the organization charged by FIH to organize and manage Masters’ World Cups and Continental Championships.
