I lecturer on Safety Risk Management for the University\'s Professional Masters Programmes. I aim to build on the student\'s understanding of safety and risk and the methods used to manage them within the aviation industry, embracing a modern approach to risk and resilience. It is also very important to me to prepare the students for applying these ideas in their day jobs.

ABOUT SIMON GILL
I’m an entrepreneur and business consultant, coach and trainer, helping organisations reimagine and improve their triple bottom line, People, Planet & Profit.Working in my own businesses and with companies of all sizes across multiple sectors, including aviation, healthcare, property & fashion, I focus on the following areas:* Building Resilience – I help companies make a step-change in how they identify, manage and treat risk, and guide them to build resilience, enabling them to deal with adversity, withstand shocks, continuously learn, adapt and accelerate as disruptions and crises arise.* Operating Responsibly – I support businesses to reduce the impact of their organisation on their stakeholders, including employees, customers, suppliers and the wider community, ensuring inclusivity and diversity throughout the business, modelled from the top.* Acting Regeneratively – I help organisations to deliver the next level of sustainability for their business, moving beyond minimising damage to protecting and improving the environment, embracing the circular economy.As a Chartered Engineer with a PhD in psychology, I bring a multi-disciplinary approach that has human-centred design at its core, and is structured to help organisations reimagine their own business growth. Deliberately cross-referencing and applying best-practice ideas, processes and learnings from different industries, I aim to ensure products, processes, systems and services are effective, efficient and optimised for users across the whole lifecycle, without introducing downstream harm. My approach is influenced by four guiding principles: honesty, integrity, fairness and logic. I place a high value on diverse teams, knowledge sharing, and the philosophy that failure is good because it’s how we learn. Passionate about a systemic approach that’s designed to benefit businesses, society and the environment, my goal is to help every organisation I’m involved with effect meaningful, human-centred change.Recent examples of my work:* Arup – facilitated action learning sets to develop resilience & sustainability for critical infrastructure* Airbus – consulted on risk management & human factors practice and implementation * NHS – ran workshops to share best practice on adaptations in practice & staff well-being during COVID-19* The Mayo Clinic – conducted research on how fatigue & burnout affect resilience in operating theatre teams, and the impact of the space they work in* HeliOffshore – adapted techniques to help aviation professionals learn from experts on making decisions
