ABOUT SIMON DONOHUE
I am an Associate Director at SEC Newgate, leading the communications, insight and advocacy agency’s northern office in Manchester. We offer a fully integrated corporate communications service, with a particular focus on local advocacy/public affairs - supporting developers across the energy, transport, infrastructure and property sectors to achieve their aims through engagement, consultation and strategic communications.I\'m a passionate and creative strategic communications professional with extensive senior-level experience across Public Relations, issues management, multimedia content and journalism.Underpinning all of that, I love writing, photography and film - things I do for work and pleasure. I have worked across the public, private and educational sectors. My two most recent roles before joining SEC Newgate were within public sector organisations in Greater Manchester supporting mayoral priorities. At Transport for Greater Manchester, I was Strategic Communications Lead for the Behaviour Change, Campaigns and Insight team, supporting delivery of the Bee Network, Greater Manchester’s bold vision for an integrated transport network bringing together public transport, active travel, and eventually, trains. I led communications for complex and challenging strategic priorities, including the Greater Manchester Clean Air Plan, Vision Zero, Golborne railway station consultation and engagement on Bee Network reviews.Prior to joining TFGM, I worked at Marketing Manchester, Greater Manchester’s destination management organisation, as Content Curator, helping to tell the city-region’s story nationally and internationally in support of inward investment. This work was funded and supported by the Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership (now Greater Manchester Business Board). Before moving into public sector communications in Greater Manchester, I was part of the senior management team at multi-award winning PR, content and communications consultancy, Intelligent Conversation.I worked as a journalist and editor from leaving full-time education in 1992 until 2013 - covering general news and features, investigations, motoring, music and business. Between 1997 and 2013 I worked for the Manchester Evening News, including as business and features editor and as editor of the standalone business magazine Greater Manchester Business Week. As a freelance correspondent, I wrote for titles including Place North West, Property Week, Estates Gazette, North West Business Insider and the Big Issue In The North.
