About Simon Conway
A former British Army Officer who joined The HALO Trust in 1998, working in Cambodia, Kosovo, Abkhazia, Eritrea and Sri Lanka. In 2004, I became Deputy Director and then CEO of Landmine Action establishing mine clearance projects in Western Sahara and Guinea Bissau, and a disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration project in Liberia. Two years later I was elected one of three co-chairs of the international Cluster Munition Coalition which successfully campaigned to achieve the 2008 cluster munition convention. In 2012 I re-joined HALO as a member of the board of trustees. Following the departure of the founding CEO, I ran HALO as an executive trustee from 20••••15. I then re-joined the staff and worked in various roles in HALO, as Director of Strategy, Director of Capability and Head of New Programs. I was involved in setting up new HALO mine action or weapons and ammunition management programmes in Syria, Iraq and Libya. Since 2022 I have been working in the South Pacific, in the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. I am the author of eight published novels, winning the Ian Fleming Steel Dagger for A Loyal Spy in 2010. I live in Washington, D.C, with my wife, the journalist and broadcaster Sarah Smith.
