ABOUT SIMON ASH
Specialist Registration (Anaesthesia - independent practice): Ireland, South Africa, Canada (NL/NS) A dedicated professional with over a decade of anaesthesia experience, primarily in the public health sector in a tertiary academic setting, complemented by private practice experience, having practiced in four different health systems on three continents. Dr Ash, as a specialist, has gained extensive experience in multiple anaesthetic disciplines, including (but not exclusive to) trauma, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, vascular, urology and ENT, developing a comprehensive range of practical clinical skills. With a special interest in Obstetric Anaesthesia and research, Dr Ash has furthered his exposure to this sub-specialty. Dr Ash’s experience in a public health sector serving a diverse, multi-cultural society contributes to an excellent understanding of cultural and societal issues. From an under-resourced urban environment such as Soweto to the structured social service environments of Ireland and Canada, a primary focus is the development of an empathic, patient-centered philosophy with a strong bias toward communication skills and on-the-spot problem-solving. The underlying objective is the delivery of First World outcomes in, at times, a resource-poor environment. Working in these environments, the efficient and effective management of busy caseloads is a priority, along with the promotion of service delivery and the achievement of optimum theatre efficiency through LEAN thinking.
