About Simon Alfano
I am an Associate Partner in McKinsey’s Boston Office and the co-leader of the Rare Disease and Cell & Gene Therapy (CGT) group within our Life Sciences Launch Service Line, advising clients on how to bring innovative therapies to patients with a high unmet need, often in disease areas with no previously approved therapies. I work with clients across the Americas, Europe, and Asia to build the capabilities required to enable healthcare systems, physicians and caregivers to adopt game-changing therapies for patients with highest unmet need. In building end-to-end data- and analytics-enabled capabilities with my clients, I collaborate closely with McKinsey\'s Life Sciences Data CoE and advanced analytics group QuantumBlack. While I have focused my work at McKinsey in the past years on supporting biotech companies to innovate in rare disease and CGT, I worked over the last 15+ years with organizations along the entire healthcare value chain (incl. payers, CDMOs, pharma wholesalers, pharmacy chains, life sciences suppliers and medical device companies) to develop and execute on differentiating strategies (both in consulting and in industry). Prior to joining McKinsey, I have been co-founder of the big data-enabled capital market communication start-up TonalityTech. I hold a doctoral degree in information systems.
