ABOUT SIMON AIREY

As an experienced teacher with a passion for providing all children with access to the curriculum, I have developed a keen interest in early years education and special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Throughout my career, I have worked in a variety of settings and have honed my ability to develop creative and innovative teaching approaches that help all children to achieve their potential. In my current role as a supply teacher with Academics, I am responsible for providing day-to-day, short-term and long term cover for nurseries, EYFS, KS1, and Year 3 classes. Prior to this, I spent six years at Sunnyhill Primary School, where I served as EYFS Phase Leader and Class Teacher for Nursery, Reception, Year 1, and Year 2. During this time, I also took on the role of Computing Leader and gained valuable experience working with SEND students. Over the course of my career, I have developed a number of key skills that enable me to be an effective teacher, including time management, determination, active listening, coaching, and collaborative working. I have also adopted an empathetic and adaptable approach that allows me to connect with and support all of my students, regardless of their needs or background. Outside of work, I enjoy reading, walking, and playing chess, and have run after-school chess clubs for Years 3, 4, 5, and 6. I have also volunteered at a number of events, including Abney Park’s summer performances and Pride in London, where I helped to keep people safe and ensure that health and safety guidelines were followed. I have also completed a number of training courses, including TQUK Understanding Anxiety, TQUK Understanding Children\'s Mental Health, and a Level 2 Autism course. Additionally, I am Pediatric First Aid trained and have completed
