About Simarpreet Kaur

I am pursuing Ph.D. in Biotechnology from the Department of Biotechnology, TIET, Patiala (India) and an M.Sc. in Biotechnology from TIET, Patiala. I did my graduation in Biotechnology (honours) from Panjab University. I am an enthusiastic and receptive person with expertise in microbiological applications. I have vast knowledge related to utilization of agricultural wastes, biowastes to secondary metabolites and byproducts. I have a wide range of interests and competencies as a result, in addition to a lot of research experience. I have expertise in producing lactic acid from stubble (rice and wheat straw) using enzymatic and non-enzymatic techniques. I have also isolated bacterial strains which can efficiently utilise sugars produced from pretreated rice and wheat straw and produce lactic acid under desired conditions. Capable of isolation, purification, and identification of microorganisms using molecular biology techniques, environmental microbiology, enzyme activity, soil testing, and statistical analysis (DLS, FESEM, FTIR, XRD, UV-Vis spectroscopy).

   Lignocellulosic biomass such as rice straw, wheat straw have attracted much attention because of its non- utilisation and disposal creating pollution in major parts of Punjab. I am currently working on the Isolation of an inhibitor tolerant; pentose sugar utilising and thermotolerant strain for efficient production of optically pure lactic acid with high product yield and has capability of complete utilization of all sugars derived from lignocellulosic biomass
