ABOUT SIENA ABERCROMBIE

I am a recent graduate from Bucknell University with a Bachelor\'s Degree of Science in Animal Behavior. I currently work as a Genetic Counseling Assistant in Geisinger’s Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic in addition to the MyCode Research Project. I have experience shadowing genetic counselors at both Maternal Fetal Care PC and Geisinger. I also shadowed veterinarians at the Bethel Park Animal Clinic in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where I watched several routine surgeries such as dental procedures, neutering, and spaying. Additionally, I participated in an educational program at the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium, where I learned about and applied basic animal husbandry skills to certain animals such as rhinos and elephants. At Bucknell, I served as the treasurer for the Pre-Genetic Counseling Society. Our goal is to provide Bucknell students with the resources in the field of genetic counseling through hosted informational sessions with genetic counseling graduate students, current genetic counselors, and other experts in the field. I was also involved in the Bucknell Dance Program, where I performed in audition shows every fall and spring. I was the former Vice President of the all-gender a cappella group,\"Beyond Unison.\" The group has released several albums on all streaming services, such as Spotify and Apple Music. Additionally, I am an alumnus of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society, as well as Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Lastly, I was a part of Bucknell\'s Primate Training Team, in which I worked with Capuchins and Squirrel Monkeys; I utilized positive reinforcement and verbal cues to observe certain behaviors the animals exhibit. During the summer of 2023, I had the privilege of earning an internship at the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium, where I cared for African elephants as well as several ungulate species. In the summer of 2024, I did undergraduate research with Bucknell\'s Biology Department, conducted under Dr. Nathan Smith. My research dealt with how differing amounts of macronutrient consumption affect behaviors such as anxiety and aggression in zebrafish.
