About Sidney Thurston
As the Director for Global Science and Technology at EarthX, I leverage my extensive experience in oceanography, climate science, and environmental engineering to empower the planet with science-based climate adaptation. I deliver S&T content for TV, films, and documentaries on the EarthX global platform, and identify projects that EarthX can support to lead by example in renewable energy, nextGen IT, climate and health connection, enhancing climate resilience, and eco-friendly building materials.I also served NOAA for 28 years managing global in-Situ ocean observing networks and empowering vulnerable Nations organizing over 30 Capacity Building Workshops across the Indo-Pacific traveling over 2.5 million air miles. I served as the Vice-Chair of the WMO Standing Committee for Earth Observing Systems and Monitoring Networks (SC-ON), where I integrate ocean observations into the new WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS). With a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, I have a strong background in hydrodynamics, wave-current interactions, and satellite communications. I am passionate about advancing our understanding and management of the Earth\'s systems and promoting sustainable development.
