ABOUT SIAN DAVIES
Co-founder and CTO of Alternate Hypothesis. Data Scientist with a PhD background in Genomics. My work sits at the intersection of statistics, data science and AI, shaped by experience across scientific research and applied R&D.Over the past year, I’ve led development of a SaaS platform at Alternate Hypothesis, centred on statistical analysis and experimentation workflows, with an emphasis on interpretability and thoughtful integration of AI.• Co-founded Alternate Hypothesis (CTO), leading the technical vision for a SaaS platform focused on statistical testing, including design and implementation of the core statistical framework and integration of AI/LLM technologies.• Strong scientific research background, including a PhD in Life Sciences, international collaborations, peer-reviewed publications, and novel genomic and phylogenetic analyses, including work on drug-resistance detection.• Formal training in Data Science and AI, including the Cambridge Career Accelerator programme and a six-week live project with the Bank of England.• Experienced communicator and technical lead, including teaching, mentoring, and delivering technical presentations across academic and professional settings.• Confident working across statistics, programming and data analysis, with experience using Python for analytical and research workflows. & As a scientific researcher, I worked across diverse biological systems, from circadian biology in plants to novel bacterial genomes, microbiomes and avian mitochondrial evolution.I participated in international collaborations, particularly in Malaysia and Singapore, including biodiversity field expeditions across Southeast Asia, as well as presentations at multiple scientific conferences.In clinical diagnostics, I developed Python and VBA tools to optimise laboratory workflows and supported validation of an NGS data analysis pipeline. Over time, my interest shifted from wet-lab experimentation toward computational analysis, which led naturally to advanced training in Data Science. & I completed the Cambridge Career Accelerator in Data Science in 2024, an intensive programme focused on applied, project-based learning with real-world datasets, including a six-week live project with the Bank of England applying ML and LLM techniques to financial text analysis.If our interests overlap - particularly around data analysis, experimentation, biological data or applied AI - feel free to connect!
