About Shykira T.

Shykira Teague is an Afro-Indigenous multidisciplinary artist from Milwaukee, Wisconsin currently based in Chicago, Illinois. She is an enrolled tribal member of the Sokaogan Chippewa Mole Lake Band and grew up visiting her family\'s reservation. Shykira\'s Ojibwe and African American identity greatly influences her creative practice. In May of 2022, she graduated from Parsons School of Design with a Bachelor of Fine Art in fashion design and a minor in race and ethnicity. Alongside being a fashion designer, she is also a photographer, visual artist, personal shopper and stylist, and interior decorator. Shykira has had a piece on display at the Milwaukee Art Museum after winning a Silver Key Award from Scholastics Art and Writing. She was also selected for DREAMERS— a project collaboration between 1Granary and MCQ that coupled aspiring artists with their industry heroes for one-on-one interviews. Most recently, Shykira did interior decoration for Urban Indigenous Collective, a public health NGO that supports access to culturally tailored health and wellness services for indigenous people in Lenapehoking (NYC) and the greater area. Invested in community building through design-oriented initiatives, Shykira is driven by intentional and conceptual art. She uses her indigenous perspective to craft and create, discovering new methods of making along the way.
