About Shurita Thomas-Tate
With over 20 years of experience in teaching and researching language and literacy skills, I am an associate professor at Missouri State University and a leader in the field of communication sciences and disorders. I have a Ph.D in speech-language pathology from The Ohio State University, and I have developed a strong expertise in data analysis, higher education leadership, K-12 policy, and early literacy development. My mission is to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in education. I have published and presented multiple works on cultural competence and family literacy, and I have founded and directed Ujima Language and Literacy, a nonprofit organization that connects, empowers and advocates for children and families. Additionally, I have been serving as a member of the Board of Education for Springfield Missouri Public Schools since 2020, where I advocate for high-quality academic opportunities for all children
