About Shruti Sharada

I am a Queer Feminist Communications, Campaigns, and Strategy Specialist based in Bengaluru, India. My 18+ years of professional experience has been multi-faceted, with stints in journalism, feminist advocacy, strategic support at non-governmental and community-based organizations, public relations, community media and podcasting, mental health awareness-building, communications management at International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs), and social media strategy and management. My work centres inclusive representation and community-responsive communications. My forte is building communications strategies and actions that focus on impact - both quantitative and qualitative - and are sensitive to multi-stakeholder expectations. This expertise has been built and honed through years of keen insights into grassroots movements and activism. Through my participation in queer movements, gender rights advocacy collectives, and as a trainer on gender rights, I have developed a focused interest in building safe spaces that understand the risks that Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) face and in raising foundational awareness on human rights and gender equity. For me, change begins at home, at the source, and as early as possible. And Communications, strategic gender funding, and compassionate leadership are crucial catalysts of change. An enduring love for storytelling in written and oral forms suffuses all my work. My personal writing and activism speak on gender-based violence and trauma recovery, queer rights, and mental health rights and realities.
