About Shrinivas Petale

I am currently working as a Research Scientist at Meta. My work revolves around designing tools in the modelling and optimization space for Meta\'s backbone network planning. Prior to joining Meta, I finished my PhD in Electrical Engineering as a Graduate Research Assistant (with ECE Best Dissertation Award) at George Washington University, USA. My research areas include resource allocation in optical networks, network management, and network optimization using machine learning. I have a keen interest in the field of networking and research. I interned at AT & T in Summer 2023 where I worked on automating IP space management with the help of machine learning. I also interned at Meta in Summer 2022 as where I worked on automating an in-production tool in Meta\'s backbone network using machine learning.Prior to joining the PhD program, I worked as a Research Fellow from 2017-19 at IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, India where I worked on network management and resiliency in software-defined networking. Both projects were funded by two research organisations under the Government of India. I received an M.Tech degree (with a Silver Medal) in Electronics and Communication Engineering from IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, India in 2017 and a B.Tech. degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from GCOE, Amravati, India in 2015.

   My work is to design and model the optimization frameworks for Meta\'s backbone network. We design, maintain, and develop tools with the help of optimization, machine learning, and reinforcement learning to solve complex problems and scale Meta’s infra for network planning.
