EZY MIC strip was developed by me using indigenous manufacturing technology, is the only one known outside Europe. Similar product to measure bacterial sensitivity/resistance to antimicrobial agents is known globally over last more than 22 years as Epsilometer test (usually abbreviated as Etest). However, EZY MIC strip differs from Etest in many ways. The credit to this outstanding achievement resulting in commercializing such superior product, I believe, goes to my 37 years of exclusive experience in the area of basic antimicrobial research. At Wockhardt I was deeply involved in preclinical development of New Chemical Entities ( NCEs) up to a IND filing stage and even beyond during Phase I and Phase II clinical trials. I was credited to have submitted 10 abstracts at a time, first time in India, on two of Wockhardt’s clinical developmental molecules during the 41st ICAAC at Chicago. At Ranbaxy New Drug discovery Research had opportunity to establish efficient labs for antibacterial, antifungal, anti-anaerobe and anti-mycobacterial evaluation of NCEs and also to technically coordinate various collaborative projects with Government Institutes. During my long service at Hoechst Research Centre Mumbai I got in depth experience in isolation and identification of antimicrobial compounds involving fermentation, purification and identification of secondary metabolites of different pharmacological actions. To date, at the age of 67 years, I have several papers and patents to my credit. I have delivered many lectures and conducted seminars and workshops on various related topics. My M.Sc. and Ph.D degrees in Microbiology were obtained from Mumbai University.
