Quantify lipid droplet formation and perform behavioral assays in Drosophila brains expressing human APOE2, APOE3, and APOE4 variants to identify early molecular signatures associated with late onset Alzheimer\'s Disease (AD) progression. The intention of the project is to study the functional effects of pathogenic variants R150H and R145C within a GlazT2A and ND42 genetic backgrounds to elucidate their roles in neurodegeneration for African American ancestry. Perform targeted genotype selection and comprehensive phenotypic analysis to model human neurodegenerative traits and assess genotype-specific AD phenotypes. Develop genetically controlled crosses, including daily collection of virgin females and males, to maintain experimental lines. Perform head and retinal dissections to prepare specimens for high-resolution confocal microscopy and behavioral assays.
