About Saidy Orellana

A Guatemalan born and raised in a fusion of Spanish, Mayan, Mexican, and Afro-Caribbean cultures, with a tri-lingual education in Spanish, English, and French continued in New York, California, and Oklahoma. Currently working as the Multicultural Officer at the Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS). Her primary responsibility is to develop program and outreach initiatives focused on Oklahoma’s diverse heritage and historically underrepresented communities telling the story and creating bridges of communication and cultural exchange opportunities for all Oklahomans. I have been known as an educator, a cultural ambassador, a historian, a pioneer, a visionary, a revolutionary, and an advocate for higher education, equity, and immigrant rights. An active Guatemalan and Latino community member, a member of the Citizens Financial Oversight Board for the City of Norman, the Norman Coalition for Refugee Support Board of Directors, Leadership Oklahoma Class #35, and the United Nations Association - USA. Selected as a delegate to the United Nations among the top nationwide Hispanic leaders by the We All Are Human Foundation in 2022 and 2023. Community Leader Excellence Award GOA. The inaugural Top 40 Hispanic Leadership Awardees by the Oklahoma Hispanic Institute in 2023. Served as Mrs. Guatemala for Oklahoma 20••••22. Named among the top 50 honorees Making a Difference for the 2020 Women of the Year by the Journal Records. Recognized by the 2019 OK Universal Human Rights Alliance and the United Nations OKC Chapter for her service to the community while busy with family and education.
