About Stephen Shooster
Entrepreneur | Artist | Author | Lifelong TinkererFor over five decades, I’ve been lucky to build, create, and share—often with family, friends, and plenty of trial and error. It began in business: with my family, we grew a call center from scratch to a peak of agents over 43 years. We patented software that smoothed operations and improved experiences for everyone involved. Those years taught me grit, creative fixes, and the value of really listening to the people on the ground.I’ve always enjoyed writing. I’ve published over 25 books—from a Holocaust survivor’s memoir to artist biographies and reflections on creativity, technology, and human connection. My catalogue raisonné (1958–2023) was a heartfelt look back at the artistic road I’ve traveled. These days, art lights me up most. My show Shoosty Bugs: An Art Infestation runs at the Museum of Arts and Sciences (now Brown Museum) in Daytona Beach, Florida, through early 2026—50 whimsical, large-scale digital insects on silk that hatched during a quiet time and just kept multiplying. In 2020, I began printing designs on silk scarves; it grew into full clothing lines and retail spots. Drawing from Art Nouveau to Steampunk, the vibrant vectors and timeless silk create little worlds of color and surprise. In 2024, I gave my style a playful name: Chromatic Fusionism—blending ancient silk with iPad precision, global makers, and a dash of boundary-pushing. It’s an ongoing experiment in making the old new and scalable without losing soul. We’ve had fun with pop-up “photobombing”—12-foot silk panels popping up worldwide. The shared photos make me smile and show why art matters: small sparks of wonder and connection. At the core is learning—fast, messy, joyful. I spend hours at my computers, building ideas slowly from nothing. Some days exhausting, most exhilarating. Grateful for every collaborator, lesson, and buzzing bug.I’m still curious how far this can go. If the art, books, scarves, or stories of persistence intrigue you, say hello—I’d love to chat.
